My Birthday - February 11th
A wonderful friend of mine, Natasha, gave me a most precious gift on my birthday this year. A family in Australia that lost their son have started a website in which they write your babies name in the sand and take a picture for you. It is so beautiful and Nat got one made for Cole and one for Breanna.
Shortly after Cole and Breanna's passing I thought of how precious the time was that I had with them and all the things I wished I had done to create and preserve the only memories I have of them. It is from this that I decided to put together "memory boxes" which I donate to the hospital to give to families that suffer a perinatal loss. In the boxes I include a disposable camera (to encourage families to take pictures - something I wish I tokk much more of), Hooded bath towel and wash clothes (to encourage parents to bathe their baby - time spent bathing a baby lets you see and interact with every part of your child and you want to try to absorb and remember as much as possible), Hand/Foot molding clay, Ink pad, Paper and envelopes to take hand an foot prints and maybe a lock of hair, a warm fuzzy blanket, a cute stuffed animal and a candle of October 15th, infant loss rememberence day. I also include a letter outling the rights parents have following a perintal loss and finally a little Peek-A-Pooh (from my collection), my little memento to represent Cole and Breanna.
I created a website so that people that recieve the boxes have a place to share their story and find a collection of Local and On-line resources that are available during their bereavement journey. http://www.memory-boxes.webs.com/
